Asbestos containing materials, including pipe insulation, ceiling and wall plaster, floor times, and even in toilet stall partitions and laboratory tables are present in tens of thousands of schools built prior to 1980. The hazard from asbestos is related to the condition of those materials – if they are damaged, and/or “friable” [meaning easily crumbled] – asbestos fibers can get into the air where they can be inhaled resulting in serious and irreversible lung damage if sufficient exposure occurs.
Asbestos Information, Data & Reports
There are many different types of asbestos reports and data that can be found on this site. Some of the information is school/site specific; other information is of a more general nature and describes types of asbestos, how, why and when it is dangerous, where you might find it in schools, how it is regulated, and what should be done when it becomes damaged and needs to be repaired, removed or otherwise remediated.

GENERAL SCHOOL ASBESTOS DOCUMENTS
Asbestos is a serious and major hazard in schools and has been widely used for many years and in a wide range of products and materials. Asbestos-containing building materials [ACBMs] are components – floor tiles, ceiling tiles, pipe and boiler insulation, ceiling and wall plasters and other that have more than 1% asbestos.
