Teachers speak out about the conditions in their classrooms and why they say the district has been slow to respond.
For the last 12 years, Amy Schlein Kaufman has taught preschool at Philadelphia’s Lowell Elementary School. She has been chronically ill with asthma and allergies stemming from dust and mold in the classrooms. She and others say the school district has been unresponsive to health complaints. The district says it’s making progress. In this America Tonight excerpt, Lisa Fletcher talks to her and to an environmental scientist documenting the conditions of Philadelphia classrooms who says there’s a cheaper and faster way to fix the city’s problems.
