City Council Hearing Testimony
Lead in water is a recognized and serious hazard especially to our children. Following the situation with lead-poisoned water found to be present in Flint Michigan homes last year, the Philadelphia City Council started to examine what was going on here in Philadelphia. A long-standing concern was related to lead levels found not just in residential water supply but also in the school water that kids were drinking. On behalf of the PFT I, Jerry Roseman, provided testimony that highlighted the hazard and called for:
- Universal testing
- Lowering the level of lead in school drinking water to 10 parts per billion [ppb]
- Quickly obtaining and sharing results
- Greater transparency
